What
measures has the District taken
to trim the budget in recent years?
Immediately upon
becoming District Superintendent
in the summer of 2005, Dr. Jim Rydland
ordered a complete financial audit.
With that to guide us, the District
is conducting an ongoing evaluation
of administrative costs, with a net
reduction so far of 14 positions
and $1.1 million in
salaries and benefits.
Other fiscal
responsibility measures taken include:
- Refinanced
bonds to save taxpayers $3.2 million
in interest payments;
- Hired a performance-based
auditor;
- Obtained a
$100,000 energy grant to retrofit
lighting which will save up to
$50,000 a year;
- Obtained a
$250,000 emergency preparedness
grant;
- Installed
an accurate, dependable accounting
system;
- Is monitoring
the effectiveness and efficiency
of all resources; and
- Formed the
superintendent’s community
advisory council to provide oversight
and assure public accountability.
