What measures has the District taken to trim the budget in recent years?

Immediately upon becoming District Superintendent in the summer of 2005, Dr. Jim Rydland ordered a complete financial audit. With that to guide us, the District is conducting an ongoing evaluation of administrative costs, with a net reduction so far of 14 positions and $1.1 million in salaries and benefits.

Other fiscal responsibility measures taken include:

  1. Refinanced bonds to save taxpayers $3.2 million in interest payments;
  2. Hired a performance-based auditor;
  3. Obtained a $100,000 energy grant to retrofit lighting which will save up to $50,000 a year;
  4. Obtained a $250,000 emergency preparedness grant;
  5. Installed an accurate, dependable accounting system;
  6. Is monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of all resources; and
  7. Formed the superintendent’s community advisory council to provide oversight and assure public accountability.
