After more than
a year of studying District 129’s financial situation and the
current and future needs of our students,
the Board of Education on Jan. 8 decided
to ask voters to consider a modest 0.5
percent increase in the District’s
operating rate. The operating rate supports
our basic day-to-day operations.
With this proposed increase, and considerable
ongoing belt-tightening, the Board is seeking
to:
- Balance the budget,
- Maintain enough reserves so that the
District does not have to borrow money
to pay the bills, and
- Have enough operating revenue to
- Handle expected growth in student
enrollment (more than 180 per year
for the next several years),
- Implement Vision 129, which includes
a plan to improve teaching and
learning
- Improve safety and security,
and
- Perform routine maintenance.
